If you haven’t linked your Pan card to Aadhar card then your Pan Card will be invalid soon. At the same time, you might have to pay an additional Rs 10,000/- as fine. So, in this article, I will be guiding you step by step how to link Pan card to Aadhar in very simple steps. I will also be linking a youtube video of this procedure. So, let’s begin.
Is it necessary to link Pan Card to Aadhar Card in 2020?
The simple answer is Yes. The process of linking Aadhar card to Pan card has started since 2018. But the final date of this process was extended and in 2020 it is still in the pending situation. By the by, it will soon be in the deadline. And if this linking has not been done by you till date, please do this as soon as possible. Otherwise, you Pan Card will be invalid and you may have to pay a sum of rupees 10000/- as fine.
Why linking pan with aadhar?
Under section 139AA of the Income-tax act all existing Pan holders and all new applicants have to compulsory link Aadhar card for filling returns starting Financial Year 2019-20. This will also help the government to get rid of fake Pan card and as a result, it will drastically reduce the black money.
Illegal activities will be easier to track as it will be linked to user’s aadhar database.

How to Link Pan with Aadhar Card?

Method No 1:
The PAN and the Aadhaar can be easily linked via SMS to either of the two numbers 567678 or 56161 in a specified format.
The format is as follows: UIDPAN <SPACE><12-digit Aadhaar number><SPACE><10-digit PAN> Let’s Assume: your 12 digit Aadhaar number is 655555332216 and 10 digit PAN is BLJFL5555H
To link it, the following message needs to be sent: UIDPAN 655555332216 BLJFL5555H to either 567678 or 56161.
Before sending the SMS to cross-check that your valid mobile number is registered with the Aadhaar database as the same number will receive an OTP to complete the procedure.
Method No 2- Link Pan with Aadhar:
Go to the Income Tax Department website (www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in). In the left pane, click on ‘Link Aadhaar‘
An application form will open where you will have to fill out the following details:
- Aadhaar Number (12 Digits)
- Name as per Aadhaar (Avoid spelling errors here)
- Captcha Code
- Click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ button
If your details (Name, DOB, and Gender) on Aadhaar card match your PAN details, the linking will be confirmed.
What if it shows an error?
Well often it happens because of server issue and can be solved by trying later.
How to check that the Aadhar-Pan linking is successful or not?
After the Pan linking is done, head to home. Then Go to link Aadhar menu again.
This time instead of typing your details again, Select Click here option, available at the top.
You will get this window.
Now select enter your details and select View Link Aadhar Status
